When it comes to accessing pirated media, apps like Cartoon HD and Popcorn Time have been great at keeping it simple for those less tech-savvy. No need to worry about seeding, uploading, leeching or share ratios. Simply select a film, press play, sit back and relax.

The problem is that apps of this ilk are taken down regularly and it becomes difficult keeping track of new ones that appear or whether others still work.

Phone Cruncher tried out Megabox HD which allows you to stream the latest films and TV shows from your Android smartphone or tablet. Is it worth your time? Read on for our review.

Accessibility

Megabox HD has a similar layout to apps like Cartoon HD and the now defunct HD Cinema.

While it’s not the greatest looking app, it functions well enough. You can easily search for all the latest films and TV shows or sort it according to genre, rating, popularity. There’s also a favourites tab that allows you to build and manage a back-log of titles you’d like to watch later.

With Megabox HD you have the choice of whether to stream or to download content which you can watch in 360p, 720p and 1080p.

Handily you can stream videos to your Chromecast and other DLNA devices using LocalCast.

Library

Megabox HD has a sizeable catalogue of content to choose from. There’s the latest releases including the likes of Ted 2, Southpaw, Mad Max: Fury Road and Terminator Genisys. You can also find classics like The Godfather, Star Wars, Casablanca, Goodfellas and many more. New content is added daily so you’ll never be stuck for choice!

In a nutshell…

If you’re not scrupulous about paying to watch films and TV shows, then Megabox HD is the app for you. As you’d expect with an app enabling piracy, it’s not available on the Google Play store but you can download the APK file here.

Enjoy it while it lasts. It won’t be long before it gets taken down and a new app sprouts up to replace it.
