The Logitech G502 Proteus Core aims to help PC users take their gaming to the next level, but does it do the job? Read on for our full review.

Look and feel

When we took the Logitech G502 Proteus Core out of its box for the first time we were left looking at a rather mean-looking piece of kit.

This gaming mouse is unique to say the least, decorated in textured abstract patterns, light-up segments and buttons galore. The mouse feels alive, and we love it.

The Proteus Core has a solid weight to it and feels like a premium purchase in your hand, and the various edges and curves that make up the design result in a truly futuristic gaming accessory. Logitech’s illuminated blue logo sits on the top of the mouse and glows nicely in low light.

Getting used to the sheer number of buttons on the Logitech G502 Proteus Core can take a while to get used to, but gamers that are willing to put the time in to master their functions will soon be rewarded.

Using the Logitech G502 Proteus Core

This gaming gadget is designed in such a way that users can customise how the accessory feels in the hand.

Hidden underneath the bottom panel of the mouse is a section where you can place mini magnets which increase the weight of the Proteus Core. If you’re unhappy with how the mouse responds on the surface of your desk, it’s easy to solve the problem.

There’s a dizzying amount of functionality

Logitech has ensured there’s a high level of customisation on offer when it comes to gaming with the Proteus Core. It’s possible to adjust balance, DPI, appearance and the function of the mouse’s 11 programmable buttons. There’s a dizzying amount of functionality packed into the gadget and it’s all rather impressive.

Elsewhere, a dual-mode scroll wheel means you can switch from a ‘free scrolling’ wheel to a ‘clicky wheel’ at the touch of a button. It’s a minor addition but an important one for hardcore gamers.

Value for money

Right now you can pick up the Proteus Core for around £60, which means it’ll likely only appeal to dedicated gamers or folk that use their computer a great deal for long periods of time.

The Proteus Core becomes invaluable very quickly, which helps to justify the price

Considering the functionality on offer and the cool design, we reckon £60 is a reasonable price. If you’re truly making the most of the mouse and its programmable buttons the accessory becomes fairly invaluable very quickly, which helps to justify the price.

Our verdict

There’s many reasons why the Logitech G502 Proteus Core is one of the best-selling gaming mice around, and in part it’s due to a great build quality, comfort and functionality.

If you’re looking for a highly customisable mouse with some style thrown in for good measure, then the Logitech G502 Proteus Core is a brilliant choice.
